Oppose Sanctuary State Laws

As a State Representative, I opposed sanctuary state bills

As a State Representative, I opposed the Democrat Party’s sanctuary state bills to protect and support illegal immigrants, including bills that:

  • prohibited state and local law enforcement from cooperating with federal ICE to pick up illegal immigrants who had committed crimes and were in police custody.  Instead, they are released into the community.

  • authorized in-state tuition

  • authorized drivers’ licenses

  • authorized taxpayer funded benefits

Since Leaving Office (2023-2025)

Testified for SB25-047, to restore Colorado law requiring law enforcement to cooperate with ICE to take custody of criminals who are in the country illegally and deport them.

Testified against radical SB25-276, the “super Sanctuary” bill to further restrict law enforcement communications or cooperation with ICE; also directs state agencies to hide records of illegal immigrants in Colorado.

I am working with Sheriff Roybal and DA Michael Allen on legislation and possible ballot initiatives to repeal sanctuary state laws.  We must allow law enforcement to cooperate with ICE and hand over for deportation the illegals who have been arrested or convicted of state crimes.  I am also reviewing current ballot initiatives in the title board process on this issue for 2026.

NOTE:  I intend to challenge all sanctuary state laws. These laws make Colorado a magnet for all illegal immigrants, cost Colorado taxpayers millions of dollars, and create a "culture of lawlessness" in our state regarding enforcement of federal immigration law.
