What I've done to protect your personal identifiable information:
Data Privacy Bill
After a two-year effort, I succeeded in passing the strongest consumer data privacy bill (SB21-190) in the country. This bill gives you the right to prohibit businesses from selling your personal data, tracking your internet activity, and selling your “profile,” for targeted advertising. The bill also gives you the right to
(1) find out what data a business has on you and to get a copy,
(2) correct the data, and, most importantly,
(3) delete the data.
These provisions will be phased in, to give businesses time to make the necessary changes to their website software and business practices. Signed into law.
Data Privacy – Government Databases:
For two years, I ran bills to force the government to report on how they were protecting individual personal information (as they were required to do under current law—but were refusing to follow). My bills were killed in committee.
I supported and sponsored a bill which increased legislative oversight of state agency data privacy and cybersecurity for individual’s data. That 2017 bill was signed into law.
Student Data Privacy
I sponsored and voted for HB16-1423, Student Data Privacy (Lundeen bill) to protect student data privacy. Signed into law.
Student and Teacher Data Privacy and Security Act:
Cosponsored Student and Teacher Data Privacy and Security Act HB15-1199. Specifies what data may be collected by an education institution or state agency without parental or teacher consent. Killed in committee.
